Uluwatu and its surrounding beaches of Dreamland, Padang Padang, Bingin were formerly the playground of surfers almost exclusively. This is no longer true. A number of developments have meant that easier access, and slowly steps and access paths have been built down to the more popular beaches. This means that virtually anyone can take advantage of these stunning beaches, which are still very quite by Bali's standards. Also located in Uluwatu is Pura Uluwatu is one of the oldest and most important temples in Bali, one of the six original sad Khayangan (territorial) temples on the island.Ê Uluwatu is spectacular and busiest, particularly at sunset when the monkeys play on the spectacularly located temple.
Near Ulu Watu are some of Bali's top surfing beaches, where waves sometimes reach up to seven or eight meters. Conditions are suitable for surfing between May and September, the remainder of the year being subjected to strong spoiling winds.
